If It Was A Dance Scene

Kinetic installation, 2024

“If it was a dance scene” is a kinetic installation transforming the monotonous environment of an assembly line into a vibrant dance floor. This piece whimsically critiques the notion of individuals being “just a cog in the machine,” offering a playful yet poignant commentary on the dehumanizing aspects of modern industrial society. By incorporating components of a conveyor belt and turning it into a dance floor for metal parts, the installation juxtaposes the mechanical with the organic. The belt moves back and forth, bringing a magnet underneath with it. This movement attracts the metal parts, creating a unique soundscape of clinking and clattering metal.

Serves as a protest against the homogenized celebrations prevalent in contemporary society, where success is often measured by superficial standards such as numerical achievements and ostentatious displays of wealth. Inspired by Byung-Chul Han’s “The Disappearance of Ritual,” the installation underscores the loss of meaningful rituals and genuine human connections in favor of shallow, standardized forms of celebration. This is my attempt to reinvent the celebration ceremony.
